The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan will arrest CPM Kannur District Secreteriat Member Karayi Rajan, who reportedly helped the members of killer gang to escape after the killing.
The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday admitted the plea submitted by DySP Jossy Cherian seeking the arrest of Karayi Rajan who is remanded to judicial custody in the murder case of NDF leader Mohammed Fazal of Kannur at Ernakulam District Jail.
SIT officials maintained that the arrest will be recorded on Monday.
He was charged under sections 118 (concealing design to commit offense punishable with death or imprisonment for life) and 212 (harbouring offender) of Indian Penal Code.
The SIT already has obtained clues about the role of Karayi Rajan in helping one of the members of the killergang, Sijith alias Annan, in taking him to a hospital.
Sijith was accidently injured during the attack on Chandrashekaran.
Sources added that Sijith had reached Chokli after committing the crime.
He, along with Abhinesh, an accused and Karayi Rajan, went to the Koothuparamba Co-operative Hospital for the treatment of the injured right hand.
However, there were no records of his visit in the hospital records.
This was due to the influence of Karayi Rajan, added sources.
Sources said the interrogation of the key accused, N K Sunil Kumar alias Kodi Suni, had revealed that CPM Panoor Area Committee member P K Kunjananthan and Karayi Rajan, had hatched the plot to eliminate Chandrasekharan.
Both the leaders had asked Kodi Suni to finish the job at the earliest.
Karayi Rajan along with CPM Thiruvangad local committee member, Karayi Chandrasekharan surrendered before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on June 22 after nonbailable arrest warrants were issued against them after their repeated bids to obtain anticipatory bail from the High Court failed in the Fazal murder.
Meanwhile, an accused in the case, Sanoop of Kunjipally filed a petition before Vadakara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court seeking anticipatory bail on Monday.
The court will consider the petition on Tuesday.
