‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan has turned down a proposal to include him in the restructured board of the Kochi Metro Rail, insisting that he will be comfortable and remain productive in the post of principal advisor to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
A crucial meet convened by the Chief Minister in the Legislative Assembly, in which Sreedharan also participated, has put in unequivocal terms that the DMRC itself will implement the project. But Sreedharan took a cautious stance on board membership.
‘’Including me in the board of Kochi Metro Rail will lead to a lot of wrong interpretations. DMRC is going to implement the Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram mono rail projects also. Hence it will be good if I remained as DMRC’s principal advisor. I don’t need any posts in the Kochi Metro project,” he maintained.
The last meeting of the existing board of the Kochi Metro Rail was held on Tuesday.
The upcoming board will have 10 members with equal nominees of the state and central governments. The Centre will nominate the chairman and the state government will nominate the managing director. The project will be implemented on a turn-key basis with 50:50 participation of state and central governments.
