In a shocking incident, a 80-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 44- year-old man, who is the husband of her granddaughter.
Satheesan of Keezhekkonam Puthenveetil, Kavaliyur near here, who allegedly committed the crime was arrested by the police on Wednesday from the town. The incident occurred on Monday and came to light when Satheesan’s wife’s sister, who visited the house at that time, heard the old woman crying.
She was rushed to the SAT Hospital for Women and Children in Thiruvananthapuram. The police said that the woman, who was bedridden for the past three months, was staying at Satheesan’s house. Satheesan went absconding after the news came out.
“The accused has admitted to the crime. But we are waiting for the woman’s health to improve to record her statement,” said Kadakkavoor CI Mohammed Riaz. Satheesan will be presented before the court on Thursday.
