The survey for the proposed Greenfield Road to the Kannur Airport site was blocked by the local people at Chakkarakkal on Thursday also. A group of agitators including women stopped the Revenue officials who reached the spot to conduct the survey from doing their work. They were arrested and removed by the police.
The survey work to be held prior to the construction work of the proposed road had to be stopped for the past three days following the agitation launched by the locals. The action committee of people stated that the survey was being held in total violation of the assurances given to them.
A meeting on the construction of the road was held at the Collectorate here a few days ago at the initiative of Excise Minister K Babu, who is in charge of the Kannur airport project. An agreement was arrived at the meeting between the people and the officials on conducting the survey.
