A native of Trichy was arrested for trying to kidnap a three-year-old boy from Kalavoor near here on Sunday night.
The Mannancheri police have identified the accused as Vadivelu, 38, son of Vadhyalingam Mettukuppom, Varadharajapett, Trichy.
According to the police, the accused made an attempt to kidnap Indrajith, son of Sunkumar, Thakidiveli house, Mararikulam South panchayat. Mannancheri SI Elias P George, said that the abduction attempt was made as Sunkumar went to a vegetable shop closeby, with the boy seated in his autorickshaw at Kalavoor. Hearing the child’s cries, Sunkumar and the local people caught Vadivelu and handed over to the police.
The SI said that the accused is being interrogated to know the details about his abduction intent.
