Following the murder of ABVP activist Vishal Kumar, 19, in Chengannur, the district administration has clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of IPC on Chengannur and Mavelikkara taluks for four days considering the tense situation in the area.
Chengannur Circle Inspector R Jose has said that a report was submitted to the Chengannur Revenue Divisional Officer on Thursday recommending that prohibitory orders should be declared as there were chances of clashes between activists of the BJP and the Popular Front of India in the two taluks. “We took one more Campus Front of India activist into custody on Friday in connection with Vishal’s murder. We will also keep some leaders of the BJP and the Popular Front of India under preventive detention if they flout the law. We have banned rallies, demonstrations, public meetings and an assembly of five or more persons in these two taluks,” said Jose.
