In yet another incident raising questions on the safety of women rail passengers, a 45-year-old woman passenger became the victim of abuse from a man who was in an inebriated state at the Kollam Railway Station on Thursday night. The Railway Police arrested Baby Daniel, 44, of Valiyavila Veedu, Thalavoor, near Pathanapuram in connection with the incident.

The incident happened around 9.15 pm, when the woman, a native of Vettikkavala near Kottarakkara, along with her son was waiting at the station to board the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Express to go to Kottayam.

According to the complaint filed by the woman, Baby who was seated in a chair behind her allegedly tried to grope her from behind.

When she raised an alarm, the co-passengers intervened and informed the RPF personnel who took him into custody.

They handed him over to the Railway Police. Baby  was produced before the Kollam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday and was remanded to judicial custody till August 8.

Meanwhile, Baby told the Railway Police that the woman mistook him, when he accidentally touched her when he lost balance.
