A Regional Centre of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) will be established in Alappuzha. The decision was made during the syndicate meeting of Cusat, which gave the approval for beginning an LLB evening course in the first phase.

Works Committee convenor Nedumudy Harikumar has been entrusted with the development of the basic infrastructure for the centre. The Syndicate also decided to continue with its academic entrance examination (CAT) for one more year without any change. Dr M A Oommen was chosen as the Honorary Director of the newly established K M Mani Centre for Budget Studies during the meting.

A sub-committee has been formed with the Registrar and Syndicate standing committee convenor as members to look into the issues of raising the fee. The Vice-Chancellor has to approve of the recommendations of the sub-committee after a detailed discussion with the students representatives and principals of the School of Engineering and Pulinkunnu Engineering College on Monday.
