Metro extension: DMRC Chief to take final call

The extension of the Kochi Metro Rail from Petta to Tripunithura using the available vacant land in the area has been brought to the attention of the former Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Chief E Sreedharan, said Union Minister K V Thomas.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Tripunithura Rajanagari Union of Residence Association’s (TRURA) Family Meet 2012 held at Rukmini Auditorium here on Saturday.

He added that the final decision on whether Petta will be an appropriate end-point to the Kochi Metro Rail will be taken by Sreedharan as he is the technical expert in this regard.

He said that more trains will be given permission to have a stop at Tripunithura Railway station. This would be done before the completion of the Metro Rail project. “The discussion to allow a stop for the trains at Tripunithura is ongoing with the railway authorities and the politicians concerned,” he said.
