Ornaments stolen from jewellery

Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh were reportedly stolen from Mahalakshmi Jewellery, Aryasala, on Friday night.

Gold ornaments weighing around 12 sovereigns and silver ornaments weighing around 17 kg were stolen from the jewellery which is located in the heart of the city.

The theft occurred at a time when the city police had assured that security and surveillance had been beefed up to curb crimes during Onam days.

Fort police said that thieves entered the jewellery after breaking the ceiling and got away with the booty.

The jewellery owner found his shop looted when he opened the showroom on Saturday morning. Fort police have started a detailed probe.
