Air Force Corporal falls off houseboat, dies

Jarison James, 26, son of James Lukose, of Vadakkenezhikkakam in Nallila, Kollam, died after falling off a houseboat here on Monday night.

The incident occurred at the starting point of the Punnamada lake. The body was recovered on Tuesday. Jarison, an Air Force Corporal,  attached to the Air Force Station in Cotton Green, Mumbai, had completed a 20-day training programme on a freight aircraft in Hyderabad, and was on vacation along with six friends. According to the  tourism police, the body was found at 10 am on Tuesday by the police and the Fire and Rescue Services personnel with the support of local boatmen. According to the police, on Monday night, Jarison and his friends were staying in the anchored houseboat. “They were in an inebriated condition at the time of the accident. We were immediately alerted by the boat crew. We began a rescue operation, but in vain. There were adverse weather conditions and bad light. We resumed the search early on Tuesday and recovered the body around 10 am,” the police said.

The body has been handed over to his relatives after post mortem examination at General Hospital here. The police are investigating into the incident. Jarison’s father is a Gulf returnee and mother Rita is working as a nurse in London. Reeja, a student at Cambridge University, England, is his sister. The body has been kept at a private hospital mortuary in Kottiyam. The funeral will be held later.
