In raids conducted during the Onam festival, 350 litres of foreign liquor, 6.5 kilograms of ganja, 22 litres of decoction, 55 litres of toddy, 170 litres of wash, 35 litres of beer and 20 litres of arrack were seized from various locations in the district. Two cars and three autorickshaws used for transporting foreign liquor and ganja were also confiscated by the Excise team. “The raids were effective as they were conducted on the basis of tips given by the public,” said Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Ernakulam, M T Jose.The contact numbers of the department were publicised through the media. “The tips from the public were more reliable and the team was able to direct the chase to the right places,” he said.
