The impressive show of the UDF in the municipal polls at Mattannur, considered as a fortress of the CPM, is an indicator of the  cracks in the foundation of the party in Kannur, according to KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala. The poll outcome should be viewed as a verdict of the people against the policies of the CPM, he said.

UDF nominees had wrested five seats from the LDF, which the latter had won in the last municipal polls.

In many seats which the LDF had retained, its nominees had won by a slender margin. The CPM should learn lessons from the poll results and put and end to its anti-people policies, he said.
