43-km gas pipeline ready for use

The first phase of the GAIL India Ltd’s LNG pipeline project connecting the LNG terminal being built at Puthuvypu and the Udyogamandal-Ambalamugal industrial cluster has been completed, according to highly placed sources in GAIL. An official announcement in this regard is expected to be made on Monday. 

 30 and 18 inch pipelines cover an area of 43-kms. Since the pipeline is ready, companies such as the FACT, BSES, TCC, Nitta Gelattin, HOCL, BPCL can start receiving regassified LNG through pipelines as soon as the terminal starts functioning.

 The city gas distribution network, which would benefit households in the city, is included in the second phase. Once started, piped gas can be delivered to houses for cooking. The government would save a huge amount it has been bearing by way of subsidy on LPG.
