Four get life term for attacking Excise team

Mavelikkara Additional District and Sessions Court judge G Radhakrishnan on Monday awarded rigorous life imprisonment to four men for attacking an Excise team during a raid conducted at Kareelakulangara near Mavelikkara on July 16, 2006.

Ajikumar (Thimman),31, Anilkumar(Retnan), 48, Radhakrishnan, 44, and  Pramod, 34, all belonged to Chaprayil house, Keerikkad, were sentenced by the judge for attacking the Excise team led by the then Chengannur Excise CI Jayakumar.  They were also fined Rs 5,000 each. Two women, Sreekumari, 41 and Retnamma, 41, who were also convicted by the court in the case, were awarded 3 year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000.

CI Jayakumar, who was seriously injured in the attack, is still undergoing treatment.
