'Not optimistic about Third Front'

CPI Parliamentary Party leader Gurudas Dasgupta has said that he was not optimistic of a Third Front, to be formed at the national level by 2014. Dasgupta told reporters here on Monday that  he was optimistic about the people’s movement.

He accused the Prime Minister of hiding the truth regarding the Indian economy. “The Prime Minister is conspicuously silent. The Indian economy is in such a peril, and  he is hiding the truth about it. The Prime Minister is not corrupt. But it is under his stewardship that malpractice and corruption are taking place,” he pointed out.

Gurudas Dasgupta said that the government should make huge investments in social expenditure. “The government should curtail other expenditures and recover black money.  The government should go in for investment even by incurring a deficit in the budget,” he said.

He alleged that the government has been giving away land at cheap prices to companies. There are crores of vacancies in government departments, the railways and various PSUs. The government should fill these vacancies soon, he said.

Protest Planned

To show their power and raise various demands, the trade unions will organise a two-day general strike on February 20 and 21, 2013. “We have decided to organise the strike on the eve of the Budget day. Also on December 20, a massive march will be taken out to Parliament. On December 18 and 19, there will be a nation-wide law violation,” he said.
