LDF playing opportunistic politics: Kunhalikutty

Political exploitation by certain organisations after dividing the society on the lines of religion and community is the biggest threat the nation is facing now, Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty has said. He was speaking at the remembrance meeting of IUML leaders Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal and Syed Umar Bafaqi Thangal organised by the IUML district committee here on Sunday.

“Certain forces are always trying to create communal disturbances and are exploiting the situation politically. This is a major threat the country is facing now. IUML has always stood against communalism and terrorism and will continue to do so,” he said.

Attacking the LDF, Kunhalikutty said that some organisations were trying to disgrace the IUML. “In fact, they are playing opportunistic politics. During elections, they would choose an issue and either play the majority communal card or the minority appeasement politics,” he said.

Terming the LDF as obstructers, the minister challenged the Opposition to come up with an alternative development agenda for the path to progress followed by the UDF government. “Whenever they come to power, they would be following a similar development policy. However, if the UDF tries to implement the same, they would blindly obstruct it. Either they should show us an alternative development agenda or abandon the outdated ideologies,” he said.

Remembering the contributions made by Mohammedali Shihab Thangal and Syed Umar Bafaqi Thangal, Kunhalikutty said conducting remembrance meetings of the leaders was an inspiration for the party members. Earlier, IUML president

Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal inaugurated the meeting in which Social Welfare and Panchayat Minister M K Muneer, MLAs C Moyinkutty and Ummar Master and IUML leaders M C Mayin Haji, Ummer Pandikashala, M A Razak Master, P K K Bava and Najeeb Kanthapuram also attended the remembrance meet.
