Curbs on tanker lorries

A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday decided to impose curbs on movement of tanker lorries carrying LPG gas cylinders and other inflammable substances through the roads in the state.

Accordingly, movement of tanker lorries from 8 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 6 pm will be banned.

There should be two drivers in a tanker lorry and with prescribed duty hours.

Based on the recommendations of a committee headed by Chief Secretary K Jayakumar, it was also decided to implicate oil companies and contractors in the event of mishaps.

The oil companies have also been directed to provide comfortable resting facilities for tanker lorry staff en route the movement of the vehicles.

Heeding the plea of representatives of tanker lorry owners, it was also decided to take steps to prevent detention of tanker lorries at check posts for long hours.

Transport Minister Aryadan Mohammed and Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan also attended the meet.
