A 23-year-old man allegedly tried to immolate himself at his lover’s relative’s house in Methala, Kodungallur, after his attempt to convince his lover’s relatives turned futile on Friday. Frustrated over the alleged behaviour of the girl’s relatives, Jithu Mon, 23, of Alappuzha, poured kerosene over himself and set himself ablaze.
Locals and neighbours doused the flame and rushed him to Ernakulam General Hospital with more than 70 per cent burns, according to the Kodungallur police. However, the police said that they are yet to record his statement about the incident. “We cannot say anything on the issue before recording his statement, said Circle Inspector of Kodungallur police, Nawas.
The locals said that the house, where he tried to immolate himself, belongs to a cop in the Kodungallur the police station. The girl mentioned is the cop’s sister-in-law.
