Children who visit the second phase of the Sarovaram biopark will not be disappointed from this month as the park will be reopened on November 14. Until a month ago children had to leave the park with disappointment after they were not allowed to enter it. Though the park was formally inaugurated by Minister A P Anilkumar on February 10, it remained closed for almost nine months owing to a few last-minute works. However, the first phase of the park remained open to the public. The ambience of the second phase of the park was spoiled due to overgrown bushes in the park and the walkway after its inauguration. The delay in appointing a secretary in the District Tourism Promotion Council had also led to the delay in opening the second phase of the park. Close to `3.79 core was spent on completing and beautifying the second phase. It is equipped with an amusement park for children, along with a walkway and huts. The park also has two climbers and seven slides of different designs. The contract for the construction was handed over to KITCO, which completed the work and handed it over to the DTPC. The delay in opening the park had received criticism from both parents and kids who had to return home seeing the ‘no entry’ board. The delay in the appointment of cleaning staff and security was also a reason for the delayed opening of the park. A painting competition for primary school students will be conducted at the park on November 14 to mark its re-opening. With the opening of this park, Kozhikode, which has a dearth of parks and playing areas, will have one more park within city limits, along with a Gandhi Park, Lions Park and the park inside the planetarium.
