The KSEB will also make announcements before opening of shutters of the Idukki dam, Karuppankutty said.

The dam shutters were opened for the first time in 1981 when the water level had reached 2,403 ft, following North-East Monsoon.

It was again opened in 1992 when the level had reached 2,402 ft during the North-East monsoon.

Water level in the Mullaperiyar dam is at a low of 123 feet against full capacity of 136 feet.

The average rainfall recorded in the district during the last 24 hours ending on Wednesday morning was 64.34 mm.

Peermade taluk received the highest rainfall of 123 mm. Devikulam taluk got 70.2 mm, Thodupuzha 32.7 mm and Udumbanchola 25.8 mm.
