CB Fails to Make Headway in Case

The Crime Branch, investigating the cheating case against Santhosh Madhavan, on the basis of a complaint by Dubai-based Seraphin Edwin, is finding it hard to make a headway.

The Crime Branch had sought the assistance of Interpol to locate two other persons, who along with Santhosh Madhavan allegedly cheated Seraphin Edwin in Dubai, but they are yet to receive any assistance from the agency.

According to Crime Branch sources, they had written a letter to Indian Embassy based in Dubai for locating two suspects named Khalid Al Harshraj and Aslam. Crime Branch believes that these persons might not be Arab nationals and might have used Arabic dress to cheat Seraphin Edvin. The petitioner had said that these persons were with Santhosh Madhavan, while receiving `44 lakh from him. “The Indian Embassy after liasoning with the Interpol, asked us to provide additional details regarding the duo. Apart from the statement of Seraphin Edwin, investigating team does not possess any info on these suspects. Though we had asked complainant to report to us two months back, for the purpose of recording a statement, she did not turn up,” an official said.

The Crime Branch is planning to centre their probe around Santhosh Madhavan and his driver Saifudheen. “Since we cannot carry out investigation in Dubai, we plan to investigate the role of Santhosh Madhavan and his driver in the case,” an official said. The CB is also tracing the status of the case registered in Dubai by the local police against Santhosh Madhavan on the same complaint. Seraphin Edwin had wrote an email in 2008 to the police, in which she alleged that Santhosh Madhavan cheated her off `44 lakh. Following the complaint, he was arrested by police.
