Biju Radhakrishnan and Saritha S Nair, who duped several people by promising to set up solar plants and windmills at cheap rates, targeted several doctors in the Malabar region. As many as 11 petitions were filed against Biju in the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Ernakulam, of which, ten petitioners were doctors.

According to advocate M C Suresh, who is representing the doctors, the Consumer Court has issued orders in eight cases favouring the petitioners, and directed Team Solar Renewable Energy Solutions (Pvt) Ltd to refund the money to the petitioners. “Biju Radhakrishnan introduced himself as a doctor, by the name of R B Nair while Saritha S Nair introduced herself to the doctors as Lekshmi Nair. The duo had asked the doctors to pay Rs 1 lakh in advance for setting up the solar panels. The project was named the ‘Doctors’ Promotion Plant’ and they said that if the money was paid in advance, they would be given a subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh on the entire project. But once the money was paid, the duo went missing and their phones were switched off.

Despite some of the doctors filing complaints with the Superintendents of Police in Kannur and Kozhikode, there were no action. At last, the doctors filed a petition at the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in December 2012,” M C Suresh said.

P K Subramanyan, who was first franchisee of Team Solar Renewable Energy Solutions Ltd in the state, operating in the Tripunithura area, said that Biju had introduced himself as R B Nair.

“After the first anniversary of the company, he added doctor to his name. Their plans were rather elaborate and that is why a lot of people fell for the trap. As far as I know, he was not a doctor and this move was simply to execute the fraud,” he said.
