Minister sorts out standoff

Visual and newspaper reporters have not been allowed to enter the Aluva District Hospital for the last few weeks on allegations that they were propagating ‘false’ news about shortage of medicines and other administrative issues in the hospital.

Visual and newspaper reporters have not been allowed to enter the Aluva District Hospital for the last few weeks on allegations that they were propagating ‘false’ news about shortage of medicines and other administrative issues in the hospital.

When Health Minister V S Sivakumar visited the hospital on Friday in connection with the inauguration of the Karunakaran Block, he had to face the media on the legitimacy of ‘prohibition’ on their entry to the hospital.

The minister enquired about the situation from the hospital supervisor and said such incidents would not happen in future.

The minister said media presents the real picture of any situation and helps the government in deciding the future course of action. Securitymen said they had been blocking mediapersons from entering the hospital on the basis of instruction from the hospital authorities.
