Delhi Metro Rail Corporation former chairman and chief adviser to the monorail projects in the state, E Sreedharan, said on Saturday that the work on the `1,991-crore monorail project in Kozhikode would commence by the second week of February next year.

After the inauguration of a new office of the DMRC in Kozhikode, Sreedharan said the progress of the implementation of the project would depend on the land acquisition process.

The project would be launched in two phases, with the first phase covering the distance between Medical College and Mananchira Junction and the second phase from Mananchira to Meenchanda Junction.

“If the land acquisition process can be completed earlier, work can be expedited for the second phase. The project will be completed within three years after the commencement of the work,” he added.
