'V R Krishna Iyer is a true judge in word and spirit'
In what appears to be a politically significant gesture, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat visited jurist Justice V R Krishna Iyer at the latter’s residence here on Monday. The visit follows the letter correspondence that they had a couple of months ago. Bhagwat, in his letter, had expressed his wish to meet the former Supreme Court judge when he visits Kochi.
Justice Iyer told Bhagwat that he had invited criticism from some people after expressing support for BJP leader Narendra Modi. He, however, said that that he liked to support honest people.
“We in the Sangh are influenced by honest people. It is they who shape social consciousness,” said Bhagwat, adding that he had been looking forward to meeting Iyer for some time, but it materialised only now. He added that Krishna Iyer is a father figure in the legal world and a true judge in word and spirit. “He embodies the noble values of social life, which are fast diminishing. I found him to be very honest, committed to truth, fearless, sincere and well-meaning,” he said. During the visit, Iyer told Bhagwat about his new book ‘Bharatiya Culture and Prospects and Retrospects’ and presented his book ‘The Humane Judge’ to Mohan Bhagavat.
Two books ‘M S Golwalker - His Vision and Mission’ and senior RSS leader Soorya Narayan Rao’s ‘National Regeneration - the Vision of Swami Vivekananda and Mission of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’ were presented to Justice Iyer by Bhagwat. RSS leaders Sthanu Malayan, A R Mohan, Gopalankutty Master, A Gopalakrishnan and M Ganesh accompanied Bhagwat during the visit.
