K B Ganesh Kumar MLA and his wife Yamini Thankachi got separated on Tuesday after the Family Court granted a divorce to them. Both Ganesh and Thankachi informed the court that they wanted divorce as it was difficult for them to get along well. The court granted them divorce after an hour of counselling. Both of them were asked on Monday to be present before the court and to appear for counselling. The court also rejected Ganesh’s plea to avoid him from appearing in person. Ahead of the divorce, an out of the court settlement was reached between the two with regard to property. As per the agreement, Thankachi was given a two-storeyed building on 10 cents of land at Vazhuthacaud and Rs 2.25 crore in cash (Rs 75 lakh each to Thankachi and two children). Emerging from the court, Thankachi said that the divorce had been granted. However, Ganesh Kumar did not say anything. The issues between Ganesh and Thankachi had reached a peak when he had to quit as the Minister for Forests, Sports and Cinema after she accused him of domestic violence and met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy with her complaint.
