Attack on woman: Key member of gang arrested

Sasthamkotta police on Monday arrested the key member of a group of youths behind the brutal and sadistic assault on a 45-year-old woman here on Sunday evening.

Sasthamkotta police on Monday arrested the key member of a group of youths behind the brutal and sadistic assault on a 45-year-old woman here on Sunday evening. 

The arrested has been identified as Shyam Kumar alias Vavachan of Reshmalayam, Tholikkal near Kunnathoor. Police is searching for others involved in the attack. According to the woman’s complaint, she was attacked by a group of eight youths under the influence of alcohol at her house, when she questioned them for their drunken antics in front of her house.

The youths led by Shyam launched an attack on the woman and showered abuses on her, in front of her children. The group allegedly tore her clothes and dragged her out of her house.

By the time the local people ran in for help, the gang left. Police said that her children too suffered injuries in the attack. Sasthamkotta SI Sunil Krishnan told Express that Shyam Kumar was the key member of the gang and they expect to net other members of the gang soon. According to the woman’s complaint, though there were eight members in the gang, Shyam Kumar had mentioned the names of only five of them.  According to the police, the attack had caused both psychosocial and physical problems to the woman. The woman had sought medical care and her condition is safe.
