The police nabbed two persons in connection with the St Antony’s Church tabernacle tampering case, on Tuesday.

The police got a clue about the case while interrogating the culprits caught in connection with a money-snatching case.

During further questioning, the police understood that the group involved in the money-snatching case itself was behind the tabernacle case.

Shaji alias Thorappan Shaji, 27, of Kousalya Bhavan, Nellimood, Kollam and Vimal, 26, of Kallathuparambil, Athani, are the arrested.

The arrest will put an end to the speculation regarding the tabernacle incident,” the police said.

Close on the heels of the tabernacle incident which occurred in September, some miscreants had looted money from the charity box of a masjid in the town. The police said that they  suspected that the same group was behind that incident also. Shaji and Vimal are suspected to be part of a four-member money-snatching gang, the police said.
