Coimbatore Blasts Accused Arrested

MALAPPURAM / COIMBATORE: A Special Investigation Team of the Coimbatore CB-CID on Thursday arrested a Perinthalmanna Panangagara native in connection with the 1998 Coimbatore blasts case.

The police team under R R Kumar, Sub Inspector of Special Branch of Coimbatore Police, arrested Konikkuzhiyil Kunji Muhammed, 51, from his house at Panangara around 3 am on Thursday. He had been working in Saudi Arabia, but returned to his native place this year to celebrate Ramzan with his family. He is accused number 178 in the Coimbatore serial blasts case which took 58 lives. A chargesheet was not filed as he was absconding, the police said.

A close associate of Oom Babu, the ninth accused in the case, Kunhimohammed is also an Al Ummah member. Kunhimohammed was brought to Coimbatore and was produced before judicial magistrate court, which remanded him in custody under IPC Section 120B.
