KAKKANAD: In a shocking incident, four of a family, including twin children, allegedly committed suicide at their flat at Chembumukku, near Kakkanad, on Tuesday night.

The deceased are Sajo Joseph (39), Deepthi  (29), eight-year old Alfred Sajo and Alex Sajo. They were found dead by the police in the bedrooms of ‘Tranquil Residency.

The incident came to light when friends of the victims complained to the police that they were not seen for the past two days. Moreover the door of ‘7A’ was locked from inside and the phones switched off. Sajo who used to play shuttle at Assisi School did not turn up for the last two days.

Based on the complaint, the police reached the flat on Thursday and when they broke open the lock, they found the bodies of Sajo and Deepthi in their bedroom and those of the twins in another bedroom.

The family who belonged to Ollukkara, Mannuthy,  in Thrissur moved to Ernakulam two years ago for starting an online share trading business in their flat. The twins were studying at nearby Assisi Vidyanikethan Public School. Police investigating the case said, “The incident took place on Tuesday night and the victims may have consumed poison. Sliced  mango and empty glasses were found.”

They said financial problems could be the reason. “Though they belonged to an average family they had led a luxurious life. We identified around eight debit cards used by the couple for commodity share trading which may not have been profitable. But it is yet to be confirmed. We have taken the laptop of Sajo for further probe,” police said.

However, the residents said that the deceased  purchased a second hand car a few weeks and that they owned another car and bike.  DCP Nishanthini, Assistant Commissioner Xavier Sebastian, SI Scaria and CI Sajan Xavier were present. The bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. The funeral will be held at their native place on Saturday.

On Wednesday, four persons died in two separate suicide incidents at Nettoor in Kochi. In the first case a woman and two daughters were found hanging in their house. The police are yet to find the reason behind it. In the second incident, a girl aged 15 committed suicide over a row with her parents at Vyasapuram, near Panangad. The bodies of all the deceased were handed over to relatives after post-mortem on Thursday.

Twins who spread cheer

Kakkanad: The twin brothers will remain in the hearts of hundreds of people at the Tranquil Residency.

“We cannot imagine the flat without the naughty boys who were like a family member in each house of the Residency. They were very affable and up to mischief but never a trouble,” said a cleaner at the flat. The family cooperated with all at the Residency and were always cheerful. We just can’t digest the fact that they are no more,” she said.
