KARIPUR: The passengers on board an Air India flight had a miraculous escape after one of the flight’s back tyres burst while landing at the Kozhikode International Airport here on Saturday morning. The flight had 369 passengers on board at the time of the incident.
It was the Jeddah-Kozhikode Air India 962 flight that met with the accident. The incident occurred near the turning pad area of the runway.
The flight was moving through the runway at the time of the tyre burst and the timely intervention of the pilot averted a tragedy.
The pilot informed the Karipur Air Traffic Control unit about the incident and controlled the speed of the flight after the tyre burst. Different safety agencies at the airport also received information about the incident. The Air Traffic control unit asked the pilot to stop the flight in the runway itself by reducing the speed. The flight stopped near the runway taxi bay.
Fire and Rescue Services and other security departments at the airport had taken all the precautions by this time to deal with any kind of disaster. Later, the flight was shifted to the apron using the push-pull tractor. The passengers alighted from the flight on to the apron.
