KOLLAM: The speech by actor Suresh Gopi during the inauguration of the third phase of ‘Akshara Yatra’ was not without controversies. Recalling his involvement in the protest against computers as a member of SFI, he said that the observation of the party was wrong but it was right on the impact of computers on people’s lives.

The actor said that nowadays people are not concerned about environment and even the Chief Minister is talking about developing airports everywhere. “If a person doesn’t know about the implications of such projects then he should consult people with knowledge,” Suresh Gopi said. Youth Congress activists staged a protest near actor Suresh Gopi’s house here on Saturday evening in protest against the latter’s remarks against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The activists were stopped at the main road at Sasthamangalam by the police to prevent them from marching to the actor’s house. The activists later burnt the actor in effigy.

Kerala State Youth Welfare Board vice- president P S Prashanth inaugurated the protest march.
