KSRTC Asked to Pay RS 76 Lakh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The family of a 49-year-old man who was killed in an accident involving a KSRTC bus in 2005 has been awarded ` 75.78 lakh by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.

The tribunal directed the KSRTC to pay the compensation of 41.36 lakh and also nine per cent interest on the said amount from the date of filing the case.

In the order, Judge C Soundaresh directed the KSRTC to pay the balance amount within a period of two months to the family of Madana Kumar.

In the petition filed by Syla Madanakumar and others, they informed the tribunal that Madana Kumar was the sole earning member of the family.

Madana Kumar, who was riding a scooter, was hit by a KSRTC bus near the Airport wireless station in 2005.

The tribunal found that the accident occurred only due to the rash and negligent driving of the KSRTC bus driver.
