Jubilant Mood at Sanju’s House

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When the news about his selection to the Indian team came, Sanju V Samson, the 19-year-old cricketer, was busy with his net practice at the Medical College ground here on Tuesday.

He left the ground around 7 pm, when the TV channels began airing the news about his being selected. On his way back home,  he got a confirmation call that he was selected to the Indian team to play one-day matches against England.

A jubilant mood prevailed at his residence, ‘Liji hut’ at Mulloorkonam near Vizhinjam, where he was received by his parents and close relatives, who were overwhelmed by the news.

Later, his house and premises were thronged by neighbours, friends and mediapersons. Everyone were eagerly waiting to convey their their happiness and  best wishes for the promising young cricketer.

Dr Abraham Joseph, Head of English Department at Mar Ivanios College here, where Sanju studies, said that it is a deserving reward for a hardworking and disciplined young man who is in good control over his emotions.

‘’His commitment to the game is exemplary. He has not been overwhelmed by success. Sanju, who is popular among his college-mates and his teachers, impresses everyone with his maturity,” said Abraham Joseph.
