No Fiat on Liquor Policy, Says SHRC

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) said in press release that it had not issued any directive regarding liquor policy to the government.

Since the State Government is yet to arrive at a liquor policy and since a case is pending in the High Court on the issue, the case proceedings issued by SHRC chairman J B Koshy on July 17 had only pointed out legal aspects without issuing specific instructions.

It had directed the complaints to the Chief Secretary for his consideration so that the government can arrive on a suitable decision on the same, the release said.

The release added that those who felt that  any part of the issued proceedings were incorrect they could have directly submitted their complaints to the commission itself. Many issued their statementswithout reading the complete text, it said.
