THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Weeks after Beena Paul quit as Kerala Chalachithra Academy deputy director, Academy chairman and filmmaker Priyadarshan also opted out of the Academy. The decision which comes following reported differences of opinion within the Academy, was communicated to Film Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. As per the resignation letter handed over to minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Priyadarshan said he would not like to renew his tenure in the Academy due to professional compulsions.
Later, Thiruvanchoor said that a full-fledged panel would soon take charge at the Academy. The minister said he was satisfied with the work of Priyadarshan as Academy chairman. In his letter, Priyadarshan said he would not like to renew his tenure in the Academy due to professional compulsions. In the letter dated July 31, the filmmaker said he completed his tenure in the Academy by July 13, 2014.
Meanwhile, Priyadarshan confirmed that he is quitting following uneasy atmosphere in the functioning of the Academy. Priyadarshan said he was not fully satisfied with the activities of Chalachithra Academy and that he is demitting office with disappointment. “Let others come to the leadership. After Ganesh Kumar resigned as Film minister, the atmosphere in the Academy was not very satisfactory. The situation became very pathetic later,’’ Priyadarshan said.
