Sonia to Inaugurate Annual Meet

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the 16th state-level annualmeet of Kudumbashree at the Putharikandam Maidan (Subaira Nagar) here on August 12. The programme will be on till August 14. Social Justice Minister M K Muneer announced the programme at a press meet here on Thursday. The theme of the meet is ‘Resistance’.

The CM will preside over the inaugural function. Muneer will welcome the gathering. Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty, Finance Minister K M Mani, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Mayor K Chandrika, MPs Shashi Tharoor and P K Sreemathi, KPCC president V M Sudheeran and BJP senior leader O Rajagopal will be the chief guests. The inaugural venue is named after Subaira, Thillankeri Community Development Society chairperson in Kannur, who died of cancer. Social activists Farah Naqvi, Vandana Shiva and Sunitha Krishnan, literacy worker K V Rabiya, senior journalist P Sainath, poet and activist Sugathakumari, Mani Shankar Aiyar MP and legal expert N R Madhava Menon will speak on various topics during the three-day programme. Programmes will be arranged at various venues.

During the valedictory function, Chandy will hand-over the MoU of the PG Diploma course for Kudumbashree workers to the director of TISS.
