'Govt Will Bear Edn Expenses of House Collapse Survivor'

KOCHI: The State Government will bear the education expenses of Sabir who lost all his family members when their house at Aluva collapsed the other day in heavy downpour, said Chief Minister Oomman Chandy on Friday. 

He was speaking after visiting the site of the tragedy that struck Sabir’s family on Wednesday night.

In the accident, Sabir’s father Shajahan alias Shaji, 48; mother Saifuneesa, 34; and sister Ayesha, 13, had died.

The Chief Minister and his entourage reached the site at Kummatheri, Aluva, at 8 am on Friday. He was accompanied by KPCC president V M Sudheeran and Minority Commission member V V Joshi.

Sabir, who was on the third storey of the building, escaped by jumping out of the window.

The Chief Minister said that measures would be taken to disburse the promised `6 lakh to the survivor in two days, by enlisting the tragedy as natural disaster. “Steps will also be taken to re-build the house that collapsed in the accident,” the Chief Minister added.
