Finance Department Still Studying KSRTC Terms

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The proposal submitted by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation in haste seeking urgent solution for settlement of pension arrears is still under the consideration of the Finance Department.

The proposal, submitted on Friday after being asked for the same, was expected to be finalised on Monday, according to sources in the Finance Department. But no move was made in this direction. The delay has hit 37,000 pensioners.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had convened a meeting on Thursday with Finance Minister K M Mani and Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan to urgently settle the issue.

In the proposal submitted to the Finance Department, the KSRTC had asked for `359 crore. The Finance Department had decided not to allow a special pension fund but to allot money for the total infrastructure development.

According to sources in the Finance Department, it would take a couple of days more to reach a consensus and to sanction the money.
