Metro Coach: Alstom Quotes Lowest Rate

KOCHI: A French Company Alstom has quoted the lowest rates for supplying the rolling stock for Kochi Metro Rail. The financial bid submitted by the company was opened in New Delhi on Monday.

While Alstom quoted `8.43 crore per coach in their bid, the only other contender in the bidding process, Hyundai Rotem-BEML joint venture quoted `10.75 crore per coach. A total of 75 coaches are required for the first phase of Kochi Metro Rail Project.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is the implementing agency of the project, had floated the tender for supply of coaches estimated to cost `750 crore.

“A committee comprising officials of KMRL and DMRC authorities will take a final decision on the bid in a week’s time. During the evaluation, the technical quality and timely delivery will be considered as key. Then only the contract will be awarded,” DMRC sources said.

The financial bid for selecting the developer/contractor for the monorail projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode were also opened on Monday. Only one company, Bombardier Transportation Holdings, which cleared the technical assessment as per the parameters set in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by DMRC, had participated in the bid. The estimated cost of monorail project in Thiruvananthapuram is `3,590 crore, while that for the Kozhikode is `1,991 crore.

“There was one bidder for the monorail project. Now, whether to go for retendering or allot the work to the lone bidder is a decision to be taken by the Kerala State Monorail Corporation,” sources said.

“We have been advised that our submitted bid for Kerala Monorail project has cleared technical evaluation. The final decision will be announced by Kerala State Monorail Corporation,” said Harsh Dhingra, Chief Country Representative, Bombardier Transportation, India.
