‘Kerala not Informed About the Visit’

KUMILY: V J Kurien, Additional Chief Secretary (Water Resources), Kerala, was not present among the Supreme Court-appointed three-member team that visited Mullaperiyar Dam on Tuesday.  Other officials from Kerala were also not part of the team which visited the dam.  Kurien told reporters that the Kerala Government was not informed about the visit of the team.  Kerala had already made its objection to three Central acts that would violated if the water level was raised to 142 feet level at the meeting held at Kumily on July 17, Kurien said.  Meanwhile, the chairman of the committee L A V Nathan, Chief Engineer, (Dam Safety Organisation), Central Water Commission, told reporters that Kerala was left out of the visit due to a communication gap. He said this would not happen at the next meeting.
