Excise Men Begin Sizing up Bars

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise officials have begun inspection of the 418 bars that have been lying closed in the state since April.

As many as 25 bars across the state were inspected on Tuesday and the government has six more days to complete the inspection of the remaining ones and submit a report to the High Court.

The court, while instructing the government to submit the liquor policy on August 26, had also ordered an inspection of the 418 shuttered bars. That report too has to be filed on August 26.

Three to four officers of the rank of circle inspectors are carrying out the inspection in each district.

All Excise deputy commissioners concerned have been  instructed to complete the inspections and submit reports to the Excise Commissioner by August 24. The inspection is being carried out as per the guidelines recommended by the Hotel and Restaurant Approval Classification Committee for star classification.
