'It's Not an Internal Affair of Congress'

KOTTAYAM: Extending its support to KPCC president V M Sudheeran’s stance in bar issue, the CSI deputy moderator Bishop Thomas K Oommen has said that policies like total ban on liquor and closure of 418 bars are not the political affairs of the incumbent Congress.

Coming out heavily against the government’s reported move to lift the prevailing restrictions on bar hotels, Bishop Thomas K Oommen, who is also the president of the Kerala joint anti-alcohol council, added that the policies in this regard, which would benefit thousands of families, should not be dealt with as an internal affair of a particular party. “We can’t overlook the fact that there has been a significant decline in mishaps and crimes after the closure of the bars,” he said.

According to him, people at the helm of affairs should a take a decision in the matter after taking in to account the welfare of the coming generations. “It is getting evident whether the government is committed towards the bar owners or the people of the state.,” he said.
