Kudumbashree in Bid to Make Women Fit

KOZHIKODE: After exploring women’s potential in running food production units, the District Kudumbashree Mission is now planning to make them physically fit. If everything works out as planned, a Kudumbashree-run wellness centre for women will be set up at the Kudumbashree women’s hostel at Gujarati street soon. The officials with the District Kudumbashree Mission say this can be taken as their first step to ensure the overall well-being of women, while giving them an opportunity to extend their services to other levels.

“The project is in the primary stage, but we are sure about the positive effect it can bring on women’s lives,” says Kudumbashree Mission district coordinator K K Muhammad Faisal.

“Our Kudumbashree members need to relax and recharge themselves often. Hence we hope they will make use of the facilities at the wellness centre. An affordable rate will be fixed for both the Kudumbashree members and other women who visit the centre. Based on the success of the pilot project, more centres will be set up, he says.

To select the eligible candidates, a special camp will be conducted.

The project will move into full swing by the end of October.
