CPM Pats New Liquor Policy

ALAPPUZHA: CPM state  secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said the CPM would support the new abkari policy of the UDF government.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Pinarayi said the CPM is following the policy of reducing the consumption of liquor.  As the new policy of the UDF government will help the party achieve the goal, it will give its entire support to the policy, he said. Pinarayi said since the new decision would bring a huge impact in society, the government should conduct extensive discussions before implementing the policy. The political and social organisations should also conduct campaign to reduce the liquor consumption, he said.  He said the toddy shops in the state that lacked adequate standards should be closed down. The Excise Department and the government should carry out checks at toddy shops and ensure that only toddy is sold there, he said.

Meanwhile, he said the new abkari policy helped to reveal the crisis in the UDF and so the public is suspicious about the policy.
