THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Muslim League’s political resolution on national politics glossed over the fact that the economic policies of the BJP and the Congress were the same and as such had no immediate relevance.
He said in a statement that the Muslim League resolution that the CPM and Left parties should give up its blind hatred towards Congress and join the secular path, was unrealistic. He said that the CPM had no blind hatred but the difference of opinion was on the basis of the programme and policies of the party.
He opined that the Narendra Modi Government was against the interests of the country. But it was the UPA Government under Manmohan Singh to be blamed for BJP’s victory. The neo-liberal policies of the UPA Government in the last decade led to the BJP’s growth, he said. BJP also exploited the allegations of corruption against the UPA Government and people’s hardships to reap electoral dividends.
But now the BJP was also following the same economic policies of the UPA, he alleged.
He pointed out that the BJP Government had started offering many tax incentives to the foreign companies and giant corporates while the subsidy on food products were being curtailed.
Pinarayi said it was the duty of the CPM to organise a people’s front against the anti-people polices of the government. But the Congress party had been engaged in supporting the anti-people policies of the Government in Parliament.
Against this backdrop, the Muslim League’s call for a united secular front with the support of the Congress is impractical, he said. He said any attempt to cooperate with the Congress would result in a loss of credibility in the fight against the BJP.
Pinarayi claimed that communists would increase their vigil against the BJP which is upholding the ideology of the RSS. He said the need of the hour was to present an alternative ideology to Hinduthva and the economic policies being followed by the BJP.
