THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Terming as unfortunate the MoEF decision rejecting the Gadgil report, Kerala State Biodiversity Board former chairman V S Vijayan, who was a member of the Madhav Gadgil-led Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel, said the MoEF has the moral obligation to inform the people why Gadgil report was rejected.    “When Union Environment Minister Prakash Javedkar came here, he promised that the report would be looked into. He set a timeframe till December for the public to come out with their opinions on Gadgil report. Then suddenly a decision was taken not to implement the same. The people have a right to know why the report was rejected. The MoEF has a moral obligation to inform the people on the factors which led to its rejection,” he said.

“Is it against farmers, tribals, the low-income groups or the downtrodden? Who are going to be adversely affected by the Gadgil report? The ministry has a moral responsibility to say who are going to be affected by the WGEEP report. If anyone is affected, it would be the sand and quarry mafias,” Vijayan added.
