Critics Trying to Belittle Gandhi: Anand

KANNUR: At a time when even  extremists are pardoned by society, Mahatma Gandhi is coming under heavy criticism from all sides, including  Hindu and Muslim fundamentalists, intellectuals, communists and Ambedkarists alike, writer Anand has said.

“The detractors of Gandhiji try to belittle the non-violent struggle for freedom and fail to realise the various dimensions of the unique struggle,” he said.

Delivering the D C Kizhakkemuri memorial lecture on ‘The past century in the context of the hundredth anniversary of the first World War’ here on Friday, Anand said that Gandhiji was constantly being attacked and even the name of Ambedkar was being used for that,” he said. But basically, Gandhiji wanted to find a peaceful solution to problems, Anand pointed out. T Padmanabhan presided over. Young writer K V Manikandan’s manuscript ‘Moonnamidangal’ was declared the winner of the novel award constituted by DC Books on the occasion of the birth centenary observance of D C Kizhakkemuri.
