Surya Ashok Bags Bal Sahitya Award

KOCHI: ‘Bhurgyalo Samsar’ written by Surya Ashok of Palluruthy here has been chosen for the annual National Bal Sahitya Award for the year 2014 by the Sahitya Akademi.

The book, published by Shenoy Prakashan, is a collection of informative stories. Surya is the first Keralite Konkani writer to bag this award since it was instituted a few years ago.

Surya has previously won the award constituted in the memory of late Dr T M A Pai for her Konkani book ‘Ananya Kenya’.

The other Konkani books penned by Surya Ashok are Samband (poetry), Amrit Vani (biographies of devotional poets and translation of their works), Gunjiyo Aksharavrikshachyo (collection of short poems), Punarjani (short story collection), Krishnageet (illustrated poem on Lord Krishna), Vishwas (novel) and Utharakandathulyan - Kailas Manasarovar Yatra (translation from Malayalam).
